Electricity blackout Ghana - Ghana was on Wednesday night plunged into darkness for at least two hours due to what the state-owned power producer, the Volta River Authority (VRA), blames on “a system trip”.
VRA spokesman Gertrude Koomson is quoted by radio stations in Accra as saying the companies responsible for power generation and supply are working frantically to end the nationwide blackouts.
“It went out around peak time because the system could no longer contain the load,” she said. “It was a system trip and the overloading of the system was the cause of the power outage.
“I have had a discussion with our technical people and it looks like at a point we have to depend on Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) to take off some of the load when they realise it is becoming too much. What we have to do is to monitor the load and that is not done at the VRA end, it has to be done from GRIDCo.”
The blackout was the fourth Ghanaians have experienced within three months.
