Nouakchott, Mauritania - The Mauritanian government plans to restructure the audiovisual media sector (radio and television) under state control and open their ownership to other operators, PANA learnt Thursday from official sources. Already, a 15-member commission picked from the world of public finance and the press has been set-up, headed by General Secretary of the Ministry of Communications in charge of relations with Parliament, Mohamed Llemine Ould Moulaye Zein Ould.
The commission's work aims 'to transform the state's audiovisual media bodies into genuine public service media in the form of holding companies whose capital would be open to new players,' the Communications Minister, Mr. Hamdi Ould Mahjoub said.
