Egypt: Poor health delays Mubarak's transfer to prison

Cairo, Egypt - Egypt's General Prosecution declared on Tuesday that medical reports have shown that ousted President Hosni Mubarak's health does not allow his transfer to prison. Mubarak, who is currently under house arrest in a Sharm Al-Sheikh hospital in Sinai, was to have been moved to Torah's prison facility in Cairo. The youths who led the revolution that toppled Mubarak had alleged that the former leader is getting a special treatment from the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces. But the Army has denied the charges, saying repeatedly that nobody is above the law, and affirming it will not interfere in the trial of the former President.

Torah prison hosts many former regime officials, including the ousted President's two sons, Alaa and Gamal.

Mubarak is facing trial for his role in the shooting of protesters during the revolution, as well as over alleged corruption.

The former Egyptian President has already been indicted for shutting down mobile phones and internet services at the height of protests and fined over US$30 million by the administrative court in Cairo.

Mubarak's wife, Suzanne Thabet, has been freed after returning some US$4 million she was found to have illegally amassed.
