Dakar, Senegal – The Japanese ambassador to Senegal and Guinea-Bissau, Hiroshi Fukada, on Thursday donated rice valued at about 1.5 billion FCFA to the Guinea-Bissau government. The donation is to help the country ensure food security, according to a statement issued in Dakar by the Japanese embassy.

The ceremony was held Bissau, capital of Guinea Bissau, in the presence of several representatives of the government and Pedro Figueiredo, representative of the World Food Programme (WFP).

'Aware that Guinea-Bissau is going through difficulties to ensure food self-sufficiency, a fundamental need of any people, Japan wishes to relieve Guinea-Bissau of that concern so that the people can focus on the future and the search for solutions to the political problems and the socio-economic development programmes,' according to the statement.
