Cotonou, Benin - Nigerien President Mahamadou Issoufou is expected in Cotonou Monday for a working visit to Benin, according to a statement issued by Benin’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
It would be President Issoufou's first visit to Benin since he assumed office, and would provide an opportunity for the two leaders and their delegations to discuss issues of mutual interest, including broadening and deepening bilateral cooperation relations.
Benin and Niger have always enjoyed goods relations in several areas.
Both are members of several sub-regional organisations, including ECOWAS, and have jointly created the Common Benin-Niger railway Organisation.
The Port of Cotonou is the transit point for Nigerien traders.
