Industrial production of starch begins 1st quarter of 2014 - Cameroon will begin the production of industrial starch from cassava by the first quarter of this year, PANA learnt from official sources.

According to sources close to the Cameroonian Chamber of commerce, industry, mines and craft (CCIMA), the company in charge of the programme will be based in Sangmelima, southern Cameroon.

The company, called Company of Industrial Processing of Cassava of Sangmelima (SOTRAMAS), has a processing capacity of 120 tonnes of cassava starch per day, or 43,800 Tonnes per year.

SOTRAMAS, an investment of 1.2 billion FCFA, will create approximately 108 jobs at the outset and will only produce the starch intended to supply the local, sub-regional markets and beyond.
