African Nations Championship (CHAN) - Nigeria's home-based national team, the Super Eagles, left Tuesday night for the 2014 African Nations Championship (CHAN), due to kickoff in South Africa on Saturday.
The team flew out of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in the commercial city of Lagos to Johannesburg, where it will connect to Cape Town, venue of its first-round matches.
Nigeria, which is making a debut at the two-yearly tournament, opens its campaign for the CHAN title with a group A match against Mali on Saturday.
Other teams in Nigeria's group are host South Africa and Mozambique.
The tournament, reserved for players in Africa's domestic leagues, will hold in three cities in South Africa - Cape Town, Bloemfontein and Polokwane - 11 Jan.-1 Feb.
